23 Things on a Stick Assignment #3 -- Follow-up

In the previous post I mentioned I would let you see the reults of my comparing Google Reader and Bloglines as soon as I figured out how to use the sharing feature on those RSS feeders. Well, I'm still trying to figure that out. But, I did have another interesting experience using both Bloglines and Google Reader. Our IT people decided our email server was overburdened and that everyone needed to delete emails that were more than three years old. The deadline was April 14 (followed by Tax Day on April 15 and the 23 Things deadline on April 16--and well, you start to understand why I am so behind on things!) Anyway, while I was sorting and deleting emails, I recalled reading a blog post about how to manage one's email more effectively. Unfortunaely, I couldn't remember which blog it was posted on. I could only assume it was one of the blogs I read regularly and somehow, I (erronously) associated it with PLA. I tried searching for the post in Technorati using a variety of different words, but didn't find the posting. Then I tried a general Google search, using some of the same words and again came up with nothing. So then I went to my Bloglines account, thinking "I'll use their search feature. It should only search the blogs I subscribe to, right?" Wrong! I don't know if searched all the blogs in Blogger, but once again, using a variety of terms, I came up with nothing. Then I tried using the search feature in Google Reader and Woohoo! There it was right at the top of the list! The April 1st entry from the LibrarianInBlack.

So, which RSS reader do I like better? I'm still undecided. Bloglines has an nice layout in an easy to read format. But, their seraching capabilities leave soemthing to be desired. I'm still confuesd about how to use all the features of Google Reader (such as the starred item thing), but I like their search engine. It searches only the blog postings in the blogs I subscribe to (not every blog in Blogger as Bloglines seems to do).
